The Ecosystem
of the Bamenda Highlands of cameroon, once covered in Montane forest has suffered due to extensive subsistence agriculture, cattle rearing and monoculture plantations of eucalyptus taking over.

Because of this forest loss, soil and drinking water quality have been reduced. This process has also been accompanied by biodiversity loss. Actually, deforestation and land degradation are extreme in this area.

Further, having adopted a centralized system to manage natural resources, Cameroon (Chomba Community) is stuck in a situation where rural communities are massively marginalized, one of the main issues being water resource governance. Planting trees is, therefore, the best way to help preserve the integrity of the country’s ecosystem.

In fact, restoring currently damaged land with tree planting is the most effective way to secure a continuous supply of water to support all life.

The forest provides many other important benefits, such as medicine, sacred shrines and tourism.
